The Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd.(HUDCO) was set up in 1970 as a fully owned Government company to finance and undertake.

Resource Base

Starting with an equity base of Rs.2 Crores, the present paid up capital of HUDCO is Rs 2001.90 crores and in addition is reserve and surpluses of Rs.1672.34 crore (as on 31.12.2006) unaudited.

Housing

As on 31.01.2007, HUDCO contributed to the construction of over 141.44 lakh dwelling units including upgradation of 41.29 units all over the country. Of this 86.21 lakh houses benefits the rural housing needs and the balance 55.23 lakh the urban housing needs. HUDCO’s has so far sanctioned 14379 projects (excluding Urban Infrastructure projects) involving a total amount of 27616 Cr.

55% of housing loan of HUDCO has been allocated for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low Income Group (LIG) which carries a concessional rate of interest of 8.5%(floating) to 9.75%(floating), over 95% of the dwelling units sanctioned by HUDCO benefit these sections of society.

In the last 36 years, HUDCO has reached people in over 1799 towns and hundreds of villages. Much of the assistance is project oriented, ensuring that the housing in affordable, technically sound, financially viable, legally acceptable and above all environmentally appropriate.

HUDCO plays a major role in implementation of National Housing Policy. It has been entrusted with the implementation of the priority programmes of the Ministry like Low Cost Sanitation, Night Shelter for Footpath Dwellers, Shelter Upgradation under Nehru Rozgar Yojana, Rural housing under Minimum Needs Programme.

Building Technology

HUDCO has sanctioned 665 building centres all over the country to introduce alternative and cost effective building technology to people. Premier research and development institutes in the country need these building centres with innovative options, which are cost saving, durable, functional and aesthetic.

Financial assistance is extended to the building materials industry to encourage innovative and alternative methods employing agricultural and industrial waste.

Design And Consultancy

Hudco is offering technical consultancy in the areas of Architecture, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Landscape Planning including Heritage Planning, Management & Conservation. HUDCO is actively involved with various Ministries in the development of Rich Cultural Heritage and provision of regional infrastructure for overall growth and development. HUDCO has also done considerable work on weaker section housing as well as cost effective housing and has achieved wide acclaim with regard to planning, design and delivery of mass housing.
