  1.       Conference of State Ministers/ Secretaries at Shimla

Ministry of Urban Employment & Poverty Alleviation, in collaboration with the State Government of Himachal Pradesh, organized a one-day Conference of State Ministers/ Secretaries of the 16 States/ UTs, which are not performing up to the expectations under the urban poverty alleviation scheme of Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY), at Shimla on 31st May, 2006. The States / UTs invited to the conference were: Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Daman & Diu, Dadara & Nagar Haveli, Delhi, and Pondicherry. The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Urban Employment & Poverty Alleviation inaugurated the conference and Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh was the Chief Guest. Ministers/ Senior Officers from a total 9 State/UTs viz. Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan and UT of Chandigarh participated in the conference. A comprehensive review of the implementation of the urban poverty Alleviation programme of Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana in these States/ UTS was carried out in this conference and the bottlenecks/ difficulties being faced by these States/ UTs in the effective implementation of the Scheme were addressed.

2.            National Seminar on Urban Street Vendors

One day National Seminar on Urban Street Vendors is scheduled to be held on 12th July, 2006 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi to discuss  Report & Recommendations along with draft National Policy on Urban Street Vendors submitted by the National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganized Sector (NCEUS) and also to decide extent of amendment in the existing National Policy. The Seminar will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), for Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and will be attended by Secretaries from various States/Union Territories, Senior officers of the Government of India, NGOs and representatives of various associations of street vendors from all over India.
